Neurons are the basic functional units of the nervous system. They have a number of different structures which distinguish them from any other cell in the body:

   1. Dendrites
Dendrites are branch-like projections which extend from the cell body. Their shape helps increase the surface area of the cell body, thus creating more room to receive incoming messages from the synapses of other neurons.

2. Cell body
Any incoming messages are received from the dendrite extensions. Once this happens, they are sent to the cell body, or soma, to be processed.
This cell body contains the nucleus, as well as many of the same structures as any other cell, e.g. mitochondria, endoplasmic reticulum, etc.

3. Axon
axon is basically the outbound wire of a neuron. All the information collected from other neurons via the dendrites is processed in the cell body and then distributed to other neurons or cells by the axon.

4. Myelin sheath
The myelin sheath is a white, fatty material that serves as an insulating layer that covers the axons. It is formed from the membranes of tightly spiraled neuroglia (otherwise known as neurolemmocytes).

5. Nodes of ranvier

The nodes of Ranvier (ron-vee-ay) are the result of axon myelination. As you can see in the previous annotation, the myelin sheath has small gaps along the axon. These gaps are otherwise known as nodes of Ranvier.

6. Synaptic End-bulb
As it sname implies, the synaptic end-bulb us where a neuron ends. Often., these end bulbs connect with the dentrites of other neuron, firming synapses. However, they may also terminate along muscle fibres or other organs. When they do form a synapse with other neurons, the space between the two cells is known as Synaptic cleft.
Synaptic End-bulb is also known as Synaptic terminals or Synaptic buotons or buttons.

Hi mate

Question

State the function and structure unit of nervous tissue

Answer

The neuron is the basic unit in the nervous system. It is a specialized conductor cell that receives and transmits electrochemical nerve impulses. A typical neuron has a cell body and long arms that conduct impulses from one body part to another body part.

Functions of Nervous Tissue:-

◇ Sensation :- The tissues picks up sensations of all types like sight, sound, smell, taste, touch , pain, and other stimuli.

◇ Responses :- Nervous system provides responses to all types of stimuli.

◇ Control :- it exerts control over all body activities.

◇ Coordinate :- nervous system coordinates the functioning of different body organs.

◇ Learned Behaviour :- Intelligence, Behaviour, Memory, Reasoning.
