Slip gauges or Johannsen gauges also, as

are rectangular steel blocks with a cross-section-30mm by 10 mm. Two gauges are wrunged together and overall dimension is of the set of blocks.

These undergo hardening followed by the finishing step in order

to resist wear and tear and eventually stabilised to avoid any change in shape or size.

The thickness of the film can be between 6 to 7 x 10^-6 mm.
