Biofortification is breeding crops with increased level of vitamins, minerals or higher protein with healthier crops.

For example in the 2000 maize hybrids, it has twice the amount of amino acids when compared with the present maize hybrids which was developed.

Biofortification can be performed through genetic engineering or conventional selective breeding.
