Since O2 and CO2 are soluble in water therefore the aquatic plants and animals can breathe the dissolved oxygen and release CO2 even in water and thus they are alive. Also since they both are soluble in water the blood can transfer oxygenated and de-oxygenated blood for purification to the lungs as well as to the whole body.
