AnSwer :-

The laws of limiting friction are as follows:

\bigstarThe value of limiting friction depends on the nature of the two surfaces in contact and on the state of their smoothness.

\bigstar The force of friction acts tangential to the surfaces in contact in a direction opposite to the direction of relative motion.

\bigstarThe value of limiting friction is directly proportional to the normal reaction between the two given surface

\bigstar For any two given surfaces and for a given value of normal reaction the force of limiting friction is independent of the shape and surface area of surfaces in contact.

Coefficient of Friction :-

Coefficient of limiting friction for two given surfaces in contact is defined as the ratio of the force of limiting fnction between them and the force of normal reaction N.

μ\sf _r = \sf \dfrac{f_1}{N}

Answer:

The force of limiting friction between two surfaces in contact is independent of the area of contact. (iii) Limiting friction is directly proportional to the magnitude of normal reaction N between two surfaces in contact, i.e. where n is constant of proportionality and known as coefficient of friction.
