1. the incident ray, the reflected ray and the normal to the interface of two transparent media at the point of incidence all lie in the same plane .

2. the ratio of sign of angle of incidence to the sign of angle of refraction is a constant for the light of a given colour and for the given pair of media this is also known as is snell's law of refraction .

Absolute refractive Index:-

when the first medium is air or vacuum then the refractive index is called absolute refractive index .
