The zone is bounded on the north by the Tropic of Cancer and on the south by the Tropic of Capricorn; these latitudes mark the northern and southern extremes in which the sun seasonally passes directly overhead.

State the limits of north and south tropical zones:

The tropics are the regions that lie between latitudes of “Tropic Of Cancer” and “Tropic of Capricorn”. They include Equator, parts of North and South America, Asia, Africa and Australia. This accounts for 36% of the earth’s landmass including a third of the world’s population. Because of the tropics that are exposed to the sun all year round, they don’t have much of change in seasons.

They oscillate between dry and wets seasons.  The limits of the northern tropic is “Tropic Of Cancer” in the northern hemisphere at 23.43678° N and the southern tropic in the southern hemisphere at 23°26′12.4″ S.  They are also called as tropical zones or torrid zones and includes areas the earth where the “sun is directly overhead at least once” in what is termed as the solar year.
