Meristems are of three types depending on their location. It is present at the root apex and the shoot apex. The shoot apical meristem is present at the tip of the shoots and its active division results in the elongation of the stem and formation of new leaves. The root apical meristem helps in root elongation.

Meristmetics tissues are those tissues which are responsible for the growth of plant. It repeatedly divides.

There are three types of Meristem:-

• Apical Meristem - It is Present in the growing tip of the Plant i.e root tip,tip of new shoots and leaves.(See fig 1)

• Intercalary Meristem - It is present in the base of the nodes and leave blades. The growth at this point is refereed as Intercalary growth

• Lateral Meristem - It is present in the lateral area of plant. It is responsible for the increase in girth of Plant. It is responsible for the secondary growth of the Plant.
