The main precaution is awareness.It is very important to be well acquainted about the possibility of an upcoming earthquake.
Following precautions can be followed to minimize the effects of the disaster:
1. Staying inside or near damaged buildings should be avoided.
2.Heavy objects should not be kept on shelves,instead heavy furnitures and electrical appliances should all be anchored to the floor.
3.Gas, water and electricity should be turned off.
4.Some important items such as - first aid kit, torch, radio, etc. should be kept ready.
