The required Observations that the Rutherford made in his alpha particle scattering experiment are-
1) Most of the alpha particles passed straight through the gold foil, through this he concluded that most of the space inside the atom is empty
2) Some of the particles were deflected by the gold foil at small angles, by which he came to the opinion that the mass of an atom is concentrated at its center which occupies very little space.

When alpha particles were bombarded on a gold foil most of the particles pass through the foil which shows that there is a lot empty space in an atom. However most the particles got deflected and some of them got rebound on the original path. This shows that most of the mass is concentrated in the nucleus of a atom.
