When blood glucose is low the liver breaks stored glycogen down into glucose, for release into the blood stream. The liver converts certain amino acids and lactic acid into glucose. ... When blood glucose is high the liver converts glucose to glycogen and triglycerides (for storage).

Hello friend
here's your answer
.......................................................
When we eat food it takes time for digestion and after complete digestion the food is absorbed by villis present in small intestine from where it gets transported to all the body cells for respiration the remaining food not used by cells is stored in liver in the form of glycogen and whenever the body doesn't have food the liver release glycogen in blood for transportation to all the body cells for respiration from where we get energy to do work without food, but it doesn't mean that you should only have your food once a day..
