There are many postulates of Dalton's atomic theory. The general five postulates includes :
(A) Matter consists of very small and indivisible particles called atoms.
(B) Atoms can neither be created nor be destroyed.
(C) The atoms of an element are alike in all respects but they differ from the atoms of other elements.
(D) Atoms of an element combine in small numbers (in a simple ratio) to form molecules of compounds.
(E) Atoms are the smallest units of matter that can take part in a chemical reaction.
The last postulate of Dalton's atomic theory which states that, "In a given compound, the relative number and types of atoms are constant.", supports the law of constant composition.
