for diluting the acid, water should not be added to acid,, acid should be added to water because when the water is added to acid, a exothermic reaction takes place and water gets evaporated with acid which is so harmful to experimentor.

the water should not be added to acid instead acid should be added to water drop by drop with constant stirring because it is an highly exothermic process and because of it (if water is added to acid) the mixture could splash out and can burn the skin which can cause serious burn and also the glass container could also break because of the hit evolved.
