Patients should be asked to refrain from smoking or drinking tea/coffee, exercise for at least 30 minutes before measuring the BP. Allow the patient tosit for at least five minutes in a quiet room before beginning blood pressuremeasurement. Measurement should be done preferably in a sitting or supine position.
