•A metallic strip expands on heating and contracts on cooling.
•Different metals have different quotients of expansion and contraction.
• A bimetallic strip is joining of two different types of metals together one above another.
•When the same amount of heat is applied to two bimetallic strips then they will be expanded according to their quotient.
•This causes bend as one expands more than other.
•The one which expands more acquire convex and other expand concave.
•Same condition when cooled.
