The physical and atmospheric changes in terrestrial environment are drastic unlike water which has constant and stable environment. Hence the eggs have to be provided more protection in terrestrial environment hence internal fertilization is helpful. Moreover less sperms are required for it as they are not lost as in external fertilization.
