There are two major reason the current of the cell falls that are given below

The first one is the polarization of cell, which means that there will be accumulation of hydrogen bubbles inside the copper plate of the cell.

This will results into the increase of resistance in the cell, as the cell starts becoming more insulating than conductor.

It will less the flow of electron from the cells and at the end results in less current.

The other reason is the local action, which means the zinc small impurities like iron and copper, will start accumulating on the cell.

And this will slowly start putting a layer of acid on the cell and make the cell less efficient.
