There was a failure of Cripps Mission and the mounting pressure of Japan invasion.

It is then that the congress working committee on July 14, 1942 and decided to authorise and handover the charge and lead of non-violent mass movement to Mahatma Gandhi.

This resolution brought in by the working committee is the Quit India Resolution that declared the charge of the movement to be in the non violent hands of Mahatma Gandhi.
