Placenta is a disk like structure embedded in the uterine wall which acts as a link between the maternal tissue and embryo.
It contains blood spaces on maternal side and villi on embryonal.
It helps in providing nutrients to the embryo.
It also helps in exchange of gases.
It even helps in excreting out wastes from embryo's body to mother's blood...
