The right hand thumb rule

It states that if the current carrying conductor is imagined to be held in your right hand such that your thumb indicated the direction of the current , then the direction of wrapped fingers around your palm gives along the direction of magnetic field of the conductor

Answer:

The direction of magnetic field line can be given by the right-hand thumb rule. According to this rule, if we imagine the linear wire conductor to be held in the grip of the right hand so that the thumb points in the direction of the current, then the curvature of the fingers around the conductor will represent the direction of magnetic field lines.

If the current flows from Y to X in the straight conductor, then the direction of magnetic field lines will be anticlockwise and if the current flows from X to Y in the straight conductor, then the direction of magnetic field lines will be clockwise
