  • People's participation in election is usually measured by elector turnout figures. Turnout indicates the percent of qualified voters who really cast their vote. In the course of the last fifty years in India, the turnout has either remained stable or really gone up.  
  • In India, poor people, uneducated and oppressed people vote in bigger extent when contrasted with the rich and favored sections.  
  • Common people in India connect a ton of significance to elections. They feel that through elections they can bring pressure on ideological groups to embrace policies and programs ideal for them. They also feel that their vote matters in the state of affairs run in the country.  
  • The interests of voters in election related activities have been increasing throughout the long term.

It is not compulsory all citizens have to vote , but voting is a very important part of any democracy. According to Universal Adult Suffrage, a person can vote as long as he or she is above 18 years old.  By voting, citizens are participating in the democratic process (election). Citizens vote for politicians to represent them and their ideas and views, and these representatives  support these interests and fulfill their needs.
