On moving from left to right in a period the chemical reactivity of element first decreases and then increases.
The group 1 elements can lose electron easily as compared to group 2. Similarly group 2 elements can lose electron easily but only in comparison to group 13 and not at all in comparison to group 1. As the tendency to lose electron decreases reactivity also decreases and the silicon is the least reactive element in the third period. As we move from Phosphorus to chlorine the tendency to gain electron increases and see activity again increases
The tendency of losing electron increases down the group.Since chemical reactivity in metals depend upon the tendency to lose electrons does reactivity increases on going down the group.
