Answer:

When you cut or injure yourself, your body stops the bleeding by forming a blood clot. Proteins and particles in your blood, called platelets, stick together to form the blood clot. The process of forming a clot is called coagulation. Normal coagulation is important during an injury, as it helps stop a cut from bleeding and starts the healing process.

However, the blood shouldn’t clot when it’s just moving through the body. If blood tends to clot too much, it is referred to as a hypercoagulable state or thrombophilia.

The two physiological conditions when clotting time is reduced are during the Menstruation Cycle and during Pregnancy.

Explanation:

Clotting time is the time required for blood to clot or coagulate during the time of bleeding

  • The clotting time reduces under two physiological conditions- during the Menstruation Cycle and during Pregnancy .
  • Pregnancy causes an enlargement of the uterus. This allows additional space for blood to fill in. During child birth or miscarriage blood flushes in and clots in a shorter period before it exits the body.
  • During the Menstruation Cycle the clotting time is reduced .
  • During the Menstruation Cycle, there is a release of the endometrial cells that line the uterus.
  • The body then releases proteins that cause the blood in the uterus to coagulate and clot at a reduced time to prevent bleeding of the blood vessels in the uterine lining.
