Hi there ,

●The reaction used for extraction of elements is redox reaction , by device called electrolytic cell , to obtain the metal element use the molten salt of the element ,

●As example

If we use molten NaCl in electrolytic cell, redox reaction occures and we obtain sodium metal and chlorine gas

2NaCl => 2Na + Cl2

●At anode of the cell chloride anions loses electrons (oxidation process)

2Cl^- => Cl2 + 2e

●At cathode of the cell sodium cations gains electrons (reduction process)

2Na^+ + 2e => 3Na
