Plants with recessive characters do not appear in the filial 1 generation but they appear in filial 2 generation. It is because the filial 1 generation are heterozygous. i.e; they produce 2 types of gametes. Thus when they are selfed, homozygous dominant heterozygous dominant and homozygous recessive characters in the off springs are observed.
