Answer:

Types of Friction

Static Friction: The frictional force that comes into play when a body starts sliding over another body. It opposes the impending motion of body.

  • Impending motion is the motion that would take place in future.

so static friction only comes in play when a body starts sliding over the surface. when it is at rest there is no such frictional force. It is also called sliding friction.

Limiting friction : The maximum value of static friction that can come into play when a body is about to move.

F =  u_{s}N

Here u is the coefficient of static friction and N is the Normal force equal but opposite to weight force.

Kinetic Friction : The frictional force that opposes the relative motion of an object when the object is already in motion.

kinetic friction is usually less than static friction.

F =  u_{k}N

  • Rolling Friction : A special case of kinetic friction when body is in rolling motion.

Friction is the force that opposes motion between any surfaces that are in contact. There are four types of friction: static, sliding, rolling, and fluid friction. Static, sliding, and rolling friction occur between solid surfaces. ... Fluid friction occurs in fluids, which are liquids or gases.
