Valency
Explanation:
- Valency of each carbon of alkane: Between the carbon atoms of alkane it has single bonds present.
- Lets take an example of the simplest alkane which have more than 1 carbon atom that is ethane C₂H₆.
- The carbons are bonded with single bond and each carbon is bonded with three hydrogens.
- Hence, one bond with carbon and three bonds with hydrogen and the total valency of each carbon in the alkane is 4.
- Valency of each carbon of alkyne: Alkyne have triple bonds between carbon atoms.
- Again lets have an example of the alkyne compound that have more than 1 carbon atom that is ethyne or acetylene C₂H₂. The carbons are bonded with triple bond and each carbon is bonded with one hydrogen.
- Hence, three bonds with carbon and one bond with hydrogen and the total valency of each carbon in the alkyne is 4.
