state the various advantages and disadvantages of AC and DC current

Advantages of AC over DC:

It can be transported over long distance at high voltage and low current so as minimizing the ohmic loss in heat.It can be used as carrier waves for signal transmission purposes without the need of oscillators.It can be controlled without power loss via inductor or capacitor.

 

Advantages of DC over AC:

It can be directly used with electronic components without the need of rectification.It is relatively less dangerous than AC.


Disadvantages of AC over DC:

1). Electric cables are resistant to DC as compared to AC. So low voltage is required to transmit DC than AC over the same distance.

2). Power loss during AC transmission is more than the DC transmission.

Storage devices such as batteries give DC current whereas power comes form power plants is a source of AC.

Advantages :-

1) The generation of AC is cheaper than that of DC

2) AC voltage can be stepped up or stepped down with the help transformer.

3) the magnitude of AC can be controlled by using inductor (coil) without any appreciable loss of energy

Disadvantages:-

1)It is dangerous to use due to its high peak value

2) Any electrical equipment which need DC cannot run on DC

3) At higher measures of AC more safety is required.
