Hitler kept all his promises to the German people except one. He promised them jobs, prosperity and a renewed pride in being German The promise that he did not keep and never had any intention of keeping was not to get them involved in another world war.

The German people suffered as much as any nation in the First World War. On top of it they were betrayed by the home front into surrendering and as a result they suffered a terrible humiliation that helped Bring Hitler into power. They were forced to pay reparations that drove the country into depression. Nevertheless, they did not want to get involved in another war.

Hitlers dreams were not simply for revenge but for conquest. With every success he had in restoring the German homeland with virtually no resistance his appetite for conquest grew and grew. Success caused him to feel invincible. Nothing could stop him. Nothing would stop him. In the end he dragged the whole world into a war to try to stop him and ended up destroying himself and Germany.

We seldom stop to think that the German people suffered terribly in this war because Hitler did not keep his promise. Hitler lied. German pride died. It would forever be stained by the horrors and atrocities perpetrated by a madman with a lust for power.
