Constitutional safeguards are the rules and regulations in the constitution that protect the interests of various sections of the population.
Three reasons for the incorporation of constitutional safeguards are:-
- Equality and Justice: Constitutional safeguards ensure justice- social, economic, and political equality to all.
- Protection of minorities: These safeguards protect minorities from being exploited by various sections of society.
- Protection of civil servants: Article 311 of the constitution protects the rights of civil servants in Government service against arbitrary dismissal, removal, and reduction in rank. Such protection thereby enables the civil servants to perform their functions efficiently and fearlessly.
