In series combination the equivalent resistance is increased because each resistances are added.So if we need to increase resistance we should use series combination.Parallel combination decreases the resistance.

In series the potential difference may change at different points.In parallel voltage is constant.

In series the power of appliances farther from the source decreases but power remains same in parallel.

In parallel current gets divided into branches but in series it does not.

These are points important in series and parallel resistors.
