Hey there !

The given statement is true.

The sex or the gender of an infant cannot be decided from it's inheritance. It depends on the fusion process.

There are two main possibilities. And for all these cases the father is responsible. If Sperm having chromosome X fuses with X chromosome of ova then it results in a XX pair which gives rise to a female child.

If Sperm having chromosome Y fuses with ova of Chromosome X it gives rise to a XY pair which gives rise to a male child.

So there is nothing about inheritance here in the sex of an infant. But the characteristic features of an infant depends on the characteristics inherited.

Hope my answer helped !
