In Statics we are concerned with bodies that are stationary under the action of multiple forces. The forces individually would cause acceleration, translational and/or rotational, but together they prevent the body from translating in any direction and from rotating.

equilibrium
(definition) A body is said to be in equilibrium when it is stationary or it moves at constant speed along a straight line.
