for the work to be done force must be applied and if the work is successfully done than the object on which the force has been applied must change its position ...for example if you push a wall by applying force then the wall does not move which indicates that no work has been done but every push a chair by applying force it changes Its position which tells us that work has been done .... this tells that the two conditions required for work to be done are force must be applied and second the object should be displaced
