Tendons usually connect muscles to bones. Ligaments connect bones to bones and often reinforce joints. Joints are connections between two bones and are often complex. Joints can be movable, as in synovial joints between long bones of the arms and legs; semi-movable, as in the cartilaginous joints between vertebral bodies of the spine (vertebral column), or immovable, as in bone-to-bone sutures of the cranium.
