State two example of negative work done
Answers
Hi.
Negative work is said to be done when the displace of the object occurs in the opposite direction of the force applied.
For example,
1. If you throw a ball upwards, the work done by you is positive but, the work done by the gravity on the ball is negative as gravity acts in the downward direction but the chalk is moving upwards. Thus, gravity has done a negative work on the ball.
2. Now, if the ball is lying stationary on the ground and you push it, again, you have done a positive work but this time, friction is doing a negative work against the ball. It is acting in the opposite direction to that of the force applied by you and hence in the opposite direction of the displacement of the ball. Hence, friction has done a negative work on the ball.
Hope it helps.
