There are two important factors which lead to the rise of assertive Nationalist Movement in India.
- The Indian people knew that development of the nation was not possible without getting rid of British imperialism. The revolutionary work and consciousness by the nationalists had made the Indian public aware of the true nature of British imperialism. Between 1892 and 1905, the British colonial government reduced the number of Indian members in the Corporation of Calcutta and began to impose various restrictions on the freedom of the press. As a result of these oppressive policies, the ideology of assertive nationalism had started taking birth in the minds of Indians.
- The early nationalists were unable to get any benefit from the British government. Their view was sadistic towards the British Government, they did not take any strong stand towards the British Government. From time to time, they often showed their allegiance to the British government. In contrast, assertive nationalists were always vocal about British imperialism, criticizing their policies and talking about adopting revolutionary methods against the government. The result was that the early nationalists became ineffective and the influence of the assertive nationalists increased.
