The two main bases of social division in Sri Lanka are Linguistic differences and Religious differences.

(i) The major social groups are the Sinhala speakers and the Tamil speakers.

(ii) Sinhala-speaking people are mostly Buddhists, while most of the Tamils are Hindus or Muslims.

two main basis of social division in srilanka :-

1). the majoritarianism which means that majority is given to the sinhola people in srilanka and minority is given to community srilanka Tamils.

2). democratically elected govt. in srilanka dedared sinhalese as official language of Sri Lanka, disregarding Tamils. This become a main social division of language between the two communities in srilanka.
