It is a colourless and pungent smelling liquid.
It has a characteristic sour taste.
It freezes in room temperature to form an ice-like structure, thus is called glacial acetic acid.
It is used to make esters (sweet smelling substances) by the process of esterification.
It reacts with carbonates and hydrogen carbonates and CO2 gas is evolved with it.

PHYSICAL PROPERTIES :
1) Ethanoic acid is a colourless liquid having a sour taste and a smell of vinegar.
2) Ethanoic acid is miscible with water in all proportions . 

CHEMICAL PROPERTIES :
1) Action on litmus - 
     Ethanoic acid is acidic in nature . Being acidic in nature ethanoic acid turns blue litmus solution red .
2) Reaction with Carbonates and Hydrogencarbonates -
    Ethanoic acid reacts with carbonates and hydrogencarbonates to evolve
carbon dioxide gas alongwith the formation of salt and water .
