The two ways by which the age of fossils can be estimated are as follows :-


♦ Carbon Dating :- By this process isotope of carbon is used to find out the age of fossils .

That isotope is ( ¹⁴C )

♦ By relating the age of ancestors .

Close ancestor = fossil is old .

Distinct ancestor = fossil is new.

These are two ways .

Hii,
Age of fossils can be determined by :
1. Deeper the fossil, older it is.
2. Detecting ratios of difference of same element in fossil materials, i.e. Radio-carbon dating [C-(14) dating]
