The print culture came to India during 16th century and affected the lifestyle of Indians at large scale. First vernacular press was set up in Calcutta. During the growth of nationalism in India, the vernacular press helped in the following ways helped in the following
ways :
a) Through vernacular press, oppressive methods of colonial rule were reported.
b) The mis - rule of British government and its initiative to check freedom of press helped in spreading the nationalist ideas and the demand for freedom of press respectively.
c) Nationalist feelings and revolutionary ideas were secretly spread by the daily newspapers like Kesari, The Hindu Patrika, Bombay Samachar,etc.
d) Through these newspapers and printed editions of various texts,nationalist leaders tried to mobilize public opinion for the cause of nationalism.
