To ensure equality in the society, Robespierre took several measures
Explanation:
- He had issued laws in order to place "maximum ceiling" on wages & prices. Bread and meat were rationed. Peasants were compelled to transport their grain to the cities & sell it at prices fixed by the govt.
- The use of "white flour", that was expensive was prohibited, and all citizens were had to eat the "pain d’égalité" ("equality bread"), a loaf made of "wholewheat"
- Equality was sought to be practiced by way of forms of address & speech. Instead of the "traditional" "Monsieur" (Sir) & "Madame" (Madam) all French women & men were to be called Citoyenne & Citoyen (Citizen)
- Churches were shut down & buildings were converted into offices or barracks.
