Answer:

a) When dry apricots are left for some time in pure water, they will swell. Because water will enter into them through the process of osmosis. Later,  when these apricots will be transferred to the sugar solution, they will again shrink. This also occurs due to osmosis.

b)When RBC is kept in a saline solution, it will shrink. As the concentration of the saline solution is higher than the concentration inside the cell. Thus, water will move outside the cytoplasm and the cell will shrink. When RBC is kept in a concentrated solution, RBC will shrink.

c)If the plasma membrane ruptures or breakdown then the cell will not be able to exchange material from its surrounding by diffusion or osmosis. Thereafter the protoplasmic material will be disappeared and the cell will die.

d)When Rheo leaves are boiled in water first and then a drop of sugar syrup is put on it, osmosis does not occur, due to the death of the cells of the leaf. This shows that selective permeability is a property of the living plasma membrane.

e) The Golgi apparatus is responsible for the transport of proteins and lipids and fatty materials to another cell organelles. If it is removed some cell organelles will stop working.

i) When dry apricots are left for sometime in pure water, water enters into the dry apricots through endosmosis (water being a hypotonic solution) and they become bigger in size.

Later when these apricots are transferred to sugar solution, they release water through exosmosis (sugar solution being hypertonic in nature) and they become smaller in size again.

ii)When a Red Blood Cell is placed in concentrated saline solution exosmosis occurs and the RBCs shrink due to excess loss of water.
