formation of seed without fertilization is apomixis. if a superior hybrid variety is formed by cross breeding of two desired species then hybrid character can get lost in next generation due to sexual reproduction so seed can be converted to apomicts by suitable methods thus preventing loss of hybrid charater due to being a form of asexual reproduction

Apomixis is a type of asexual reproduction that mimics sexual reproduction. Here, seeds are formed without fertilisation. For eg, in plants like citrus trees, the nucellus cells surrounding the embryo sac project into it and produce seeds (polyembryony).
In the case of hybridisation, the new characters can segregate at the progeny level and thus it requires the continuous production of hybridised seeds every year which is expensive. But, if the seeds are converted into apomics the characters can pass onto the progeny without segregation.
