-1 + root 2 lies on the positive side

because the value of root 2 is 1.414

so on adding 1.414 to -1 we get 0.414 which is a positive integer.

the approximation of √2 is 1.414.. which is greater than 1. So -1+√2 is a positive number, therefore lies on the positive side of the number line.
