Litmus is a common acid base indicator as it just indicates whether the given substance is acidic or basic.
For e.g.. HCl converts blue litmus red while there is no change in red litmus. This indicates us that HCl is an acid.
Whereas Universal indicator indicates the pH of the given substance and tells us that whether the given substance is a weak acid or a strong acid or a neutral substance or a weak base or a strong base.
For e.g.. When pH paper is dipped in dilute citric acid solution, it turn the pH paper orange and this indicates that the solution was a weak acid.
