State whether the following statements are true or False. Give reasons for your answers.
(i) Every whole number is an integer.
(ii) Every rational number is an integer.
(iii) Every whole number is a rational number.
(iv) Every natural number is a whole number.

Here are your answers :

(i) Every whole Number is an integer.
Ans- True. Say for example we have a number 4 .
Here, 4 is a whole Number as well as an integer ( positive )

(ii) Every rational number is an integer.
Ans- False. Say for example , we have a number 1/2.
Here, 1/2 is a rational Number and not an integer.

(iii) Every whole number is a rational number.
Ans- True. Say for example, we have the number 2.
Here, 2 can be expressed as a rational Number as 2/1 and 2 as a whole number.

(iv) Every natural number is a whole number.
And - True . Say for example, we have , 2.
Here, 2 is a natural Number as well as a whole number.

Note that , natural numbers start from 1 to infinity while whole numbers start from 0 to infinity due to which we can say that every natural number is a whole Number.

∵ Negative integers are not whole numbers.

(iii) False

∵ Rational numbers are of the form p/q, q ≠ 0 and q does not divide p completely that are not whole numbers.
