Na is highly reactive. It catches fire even if it is kept in air because of the presence of moisture. So, H2 is not prepared with Na in cold water.

Hii Vedant,

● Hydrogen can't be prepared from sodium & cold water because -
- Sodium reacts with water violently.
2Na + 2H2O --> 2NaOH + H2
- This excess sodium forms layer on surface of water making it hard to collect hydrogen.

# Methods for preparation of hydrogen -
In laboratory following methods are preferred for preparation of hydrogen -
1) Zinc + HCl (dilute)
2) CH4 + H2O (steam)
3) Fe + H2O (steam)
4) Al + NaOH (electrolysis)

Hope this helped you...
