3 + root p is not always an irrational number. The sum of 3 and root p will be irrational if there is no perfect root of p.

Eg: 3 + root 4

we know that root four is two.

the sum of 2 and 3 is five which isn't irrational

Eg: 3 + root 3

1.7 is just an approx value of root 3, and is not actual value. hence the sum will be irrational.
