Longitudes are vertical imaginary lines on globe. Middle line is called prime meridian and value is 0° . Left and right side are 180° extension of these lines so total extension is 360°

Time on 0° longitude is called G.M.T. this is standard time of earth .

Earth rotates from west to east so that sun arises from east and sunlight takes 4 minutes to cross one degree longitude means 360×4=1440 minutes or 24 hour .

So the basis of location of a place on longitude we can calculate time zone for that place for example if we add 5:30 hour into indian standard time ( IST ) we find G.M.T. another example is that extension of India from left to right is about 30° longitude so sun arises in arunachal pradesh 2 hour early then saurashtra ( gujrat )
